Help for helipad

After almost two years, Warwickshire & Northamptonshire Air Ambulance (WNAA) now have a brand new resurfaced helipad.

Previously the helicopter had to land on the grass as the helipad was in too poor a condition to land on. But thanks to the generous help of local businesses Travis Perkins and Polycote UK, the Air Ambulance can now land on a helipad once more. Between them the two businesses saved us between £8 - £10,000 - that's approximately seven lifesaving missions! So thank you both!

Pilot Jonathan Tulley explains why having a proper helipad to land the Air Ambulance on is so important:

“It makes such a difference having a proper helipad to land on, especially with winter coming up. It’s vital that we have a nice surface that will stay firm despite the weather; unlike grass which can get wet and muddy, the concrete helipad will stay hard and flat. It’s also preferential to keep the helicopter on a flat surface when we’re not flying – it’s easier for us to do our maintenance checks on and is better all round for the condition of the helicopter.

“One of the biggest advantages of the helipad is that it is actually closer to the airbase, which means it takes us less time to get there – ultimately meaning we can get our lifesaving pre-hospital care to the scene of an accident even quicker.”
